Ergo Baby Carrier - Camel Review

Ergo Baby Carrier - Camel
Average Reviews:

I am a babywearer, mostly for the convenience of having my baby on my person instead of lugging a stroller around, but the bonding time is a great benefit!I suffered with the Bjorn all through my first child's infancy, but found the back strain progressed to intolerable by the time she 12-15 lbs.I discovered the ergo during my second child's infancy and used it with the insert. It's certainly been the most comfortable carrier for me and my DD. Liked it too that my husb could quickly adjust it to fit himself as well.Yet I found it bulky both to wear under a coat and when just carrying it around (esp traveling). I ended up using the Hotsling when DD was old enough to sit up on my hip (early- like 3months); even got my husb his own.Sling folds up easily into diaper bag; can work under a coat; quick on/off; doesn't emphasize my "mommy-pooch" like the ergo's waist strap does! Now DD is 1yo and I'm back to the ergo for my back's sake.I'm revisiting all the old feelings as well...bulky to carry, hard to wear UNDER a coat, hate the muffin-top the strap creates around my hips and belly.Am finding it difficult to quickly adjust from front/back to side-carry as well.Ah, the sacrifices...

Infantino Front 2 Back Rider Baby Carrier, Black and Grey Review

Infantino Front 2 Back Rider Baby Carrier, Black and Grey

I purchased this carrier after registering for and receiving the Parents of Invention Ultimate Baby Mei Tai Black Reversible One-Size-Fits-All for my baby shower. The Mei Tai had received good reviews, and was supposed to fit larger sized people, so we thought it would be good for my husband and I.While it is a good carrier, it is very hard to get my daughter in and out of it alone. This Infantino carrier had gotten great reviews (well deserved), so I decided to give it a try.I am so glad we purchased it!My daughter (11 weeks old) is very comfortable riding in front, facing in and, very recently, facing out.It is easy to adjust to any body, and has a lumbar support which we both find helpful and comfortable. It doesn't become uncomfortable after a long period of time.It fits both my husband and me just fine, and we are both on the larger side.Best yet, it is very easy to drop my daughter in on my own, and to take her out is just as simple.I feel like she is in there securely, and it can easily be adjusted while she is in to make it fit her perfectly. All in all, a great bargain- my only wish is that we had registered for this carrier first!

ERGO New Infant Insert Review

ERGO New Infant Insert
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is the second Ergo infant insert I've bought.I bought this one hoping it would work better than the old infant insert. It doesn't.Basically, if your newborn doesn't like the Ergo carrier, it's likely neither insert is going to help. You should test the Ergo with your newborn before spending the money.

My husband and I loved the idea of the Ergo carrier, as the hip belt helps alleviate back problems and is much like our packs for backpacking, so we registered for one.But however much we like the carrier, my eight-week-old, 10.5 pound daughter hates it. I've been trying to get her into the Ergo using first the old infant insert, and now the Heart 2 Heart, repeatedly ever since she was born, but with no success. The moment I put her (in the insert) into the Ergo carrier, she starts screaming and doesn't stop until I take her out. I've watched the video for the old insert (note: there's no video for the Heart 2 Heart) and am following their technique exactly, but still she just hates the carrier.

Neither insert provides enough head support for my daughter, which is why I think she screams. The Heart 2 Heart in particular doesn't work; when she's settled into it as per the instructions, the insert doesn't come up high enough to support her head, and she's not a particularly long child. So her head flops forward when she tries to look around, which frustrates her.

Both inserts feel like a bit of an afterthought -- I'm not convinced the Ergo carrier was designed with newborns in mind. Having the baby's feet out one side in the old insert seemed like a stopgap solution, and the Heart 2 Heart doesn't quite solve the issue, either.Interestingly, I picked up a used Baby Bjorn as a last resort after having spent all this money on the Ergo and the inserts, and she likes the Bjorn, because it's stiffer and provides more support.I think she won't like the Ergo until her head's a bit steadier; we'll go back to the Ergo then.

So it's worth knowing before buying this insert that it may or may not be money well spent -- it all just depends on whether your child likes it or not, and there's a possibility she won't (as I've now seen multiple reports on various sites saying that their newborns also don't like the Ergo; wish I'd done this research before getting the Ergo and spending the money on the inserts). It's worth waiting until after your baby is born and trying out the infant inserts before buying them.Otherwise, you may want to hold off on the Ergo until 4-5 months.

Buyer beware!I was totally happy when I first bought this product because it was more comfortable than others I tried. However, when the baby arrived and we started using it, I noticed that my baby's head came really close to the prongs that are designed to adjust the height of the shoulder harness. As my baby got older and started to be able to control neck and head, the same prongs actually scratched his head in a number of places - coming dangerously close to his eye.I returned the product and purchased a Baby Bjorn, which has a much better design on this part of the carrier but is not as good on lumbar support.

I started using this carrier right after received it in the mail.My one month old baby was crying hard at the time. Few minutes after I put him in and started walking, he became quiet and fell asleep.Since then, I use it quite often. It's not a magic spell that will always put the baby to sleep but at least my hands are free!As long as I don't have to suffer with souring arms I am happy. The only complaint that I have is that the straps are not very easy to adjust.

Ergo Baby Carrier Review

Ergo Baby Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We have a Baby Bjorn (Original) as well as an Ergo baby carrier.I think both have their advantages and disadvantages, which I will try to explain below.

We purchased the Ergo carrier before our daughter was born based on the recommendation of a friend. However, we found that she could not sit in it comfortably at first. Before your baby can straddle your torso (until about 4 months/15 lbs), you have to put both legs on one side.I watched the instructional DVD several times and tried to place her into the carrier as comfortably as possible, but she did not like it at all.It didn't look comfortable either with her back twisted and body squished. This is when we decided to try the original Baby Bjorn carrier.

Our daughter loved being in the Bjorn (facing in or out). This carrier is easy to put on and take off and quite compact. However, it was not very comfortable for me (especially as she got heavier) since it put a lot of pressure on my back and shoulders. The fact that there is no waist belt and little padding on the shoulder straps probably contributes to this. The newer Baby Bjorn Active carrier with lumbar support may alleviate some of these problems.(I haven't tried this product though, so I'm not speaking from personal experience). We used the Bjorn until she turned 4 months (about 15 lbs).

I was so relieved when she could finally fit into the Ergo properly (with one leg on each side). It is so much easier on my back and shoulders. With the Bjorn, I could maybe last 15 minutes (at 15 lbs). With the Ergo, I can comfortably go for an hour or two (at almost 20 lbs now).I go grocery shopping and on longer walks this way.She seems very comfortable in it now. She's happy whenever I put her in it and will even go to sleep in it.(Sometimes, this is the only way I can get her to sleep). It looks a lot more comfortable than the Bjorn since she's sitting in it as opposed to being suspended from her crotch.I also don't have any trouble nursing discretely in the Ergo.

Around 6 months I also began carrying her on my back in the Ergo, which was even easier on my back.I have found this to be really convenient when doing things around the house such as vacuuming, doing laundry, cooking etc. It's also nice for outdoor activities like apple picking, strawberry picking, hiking etc.I find these activities somewhat more difficult when carrying a baby in front. While it is easy to put your baby in the front carrying position by yourself, it takes some practice to wear your baby on your back.At first, I needed somebody to help me get her situated on my back, but now I can easily do it by myself. Some may not like the fact that you cannot face your baby outward in the Ergo (and some babies may not like facing inward). This has not been a problem for us.While our daughter loved facing outward in the Bjorn, she did not object to facing inward in the Ergo.Rather than being pressed up against me, she's sitting in it, so she can still look at things to the sides. One more thing about the Ergo - I would recommend purchasing the sucking pads (ERGO Sucking Pads - Cream). Our daughter loves sucking on the straps and it's just much more convenient to wash the sucking pads rather than the whole carrier.

In summary, I think that both, the Bjorn as well as the Ergo, are good carriers, each with some drawbacks. The Bjorn is wonderful for a newborn up to about 12-15 lbs.Being able to have your baby facing in or out is a nice feature.Because of the strain on your back however, I would not recommend using this carrier with older/heavier babies. The Ergo is great for babies starting at around 15 lbs or when they are able to wrap their legs around you.It is much easier on your back and being able to carry your baby on your back can be convenient. For us, the Ergo was not very useful before our daughter turned 4 months as she was not comfortable with her legs on one side, but this probably depends on the baby.

I would rate the Bjorn 3 stars (because it's so hard on your back and we could only use it for a few months) and the Ergo 4 stars (because we couldn't use it with our newborn). My recommendation would be to get one of each if you can.We bought a gently used Bjorn for less than $10, and I have seen a lot of these on Ebay as well as Craigslist.Maybe you could even borrow one from a friend. It just seems like a lot of money to spend on something you aren't going to use for very long. However, I loved carrying my newborn around in it, so I wouldn't have wanted to do without it.

Lillebaby 5 Position Everywear Baby Carrier Review

Lillebaby 5 Position Everywear Baby Carrier
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
As a first time mother and a compulsive experimenter of all "cool" and functional baby products, I have to admit that I am now on my forth infant/ toddler carrier.
I have been using the Lille baby carrier for a couple of months now and I have to admit that I love it.It has united the components that I liked from the other carriers and even added some upgrades.
Some features that work best for me are:
-The shoulder straps are narrow, allowing me put on a jacket over the carrier without the bulk.As a petit woman (5'3), the shoulder straps sit on my body, rather than slipping to the side.Once this carrier is on, it feels comfortable and never moves out of place.
- Her weight sits my hips, allowing me to takehour + long hikes with a 24 lb baby with ease.I have hiked with her on the front (front and back facing) and on my back. The different positions have been great for when my daughter gets fussy. As soon as we change up the position she relaxes.I have even had her on my side, allowing me to "carry" her without the weight on my arms.
- Lightweight but very durable. This is an easy carrier to use in the hot weather, and it is less bulky for packing. It fits under the stroller, in the diaper bag and even in a purse.

Overall, I am very satisfied and know that with the next child, I can stick with one carrier.

Disclaimer:As a professional baby planner, I received this carrier without being charged. My opinions are honest and true to my experience.I have already made recommendations for this carrier to friends.

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Active Review

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Active
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I was attracted to this carrier by all the rave reviews on Amazon.I like to hike, and live in a city where strollers are an inconvenience, so I thought I'd give this a try.I already have the original model, but this sounded so much better according to other reviewers. After using it for three weeks, my opinion is that this carrier is a slight improvement over the original when it comes to back support, but it's not a real carrier for truly active pursuits, and not worth the extra 90 bucks (or more) to buy it if you already have the original.

Problem 1

Although the lumbar support is a good idea in theory, I find that in order to get it to work, I have to tighten the attached straps to such an extent that my internal organs get squashed.I'm 5'9", 160 lbs, and I don't have a huge gut, but the lumbar just isn't tight enough against my back to provide support unless everything else in front is compressed to an uncomfortable degree, making it hard even to breathe sometimes.

Problem 2

An additional problem that I have found is that my child tends to sit considerably lower than in the original. He's 5 months old, and over 26 inches long, but unless I set the seat at the highest point (for children between 21-23.5 inches), he simply sits too low on my chest, and he still easily (and painfully) puts his little heels into my crotch on a far too-frequent basis.

Problem 3

The little flap at the front of the carrier, which can be folded down when the child is facing forward, constantly pops back up from the folded position to bop my kid in the face. There is no way to snap it or velcro it down, and the tensioner straps designed to aid in holding the child closer to your chest are insufficient to keep it lying flat once folded.

Problem 4

The shoulder straps are insufficiently padded, and as far as I can tell, have the same amount of padding as the original version. My kid is only 18 lbs, and after an hour or so, my shoulders sometimes get sore.I only wonder what hauling around a 25-pounder would be like.

Problem 5

The build quality on this carrier seems inferior to the original. On my second use, the red bracket that receives the red insert of the outer carrier partially tore free of the stitching, requiring me to take out dental floss and needle to stitch it back up.

Problem 6

Even when properly strapped in, I find that my son still bounces around and his back is too far from my chest for this carrier to be considered suitable for anything more "active" than a brisk walk.I have used it once to port him along for a mild hike, and felt that he simply wasn't sufficiently supported.I don't find this carrier's snugging system to be better in any way than the original.

Conclusion

Although this carrier is marginally easier on your back than the original, it is not adequate for more than extended brisk walks. If you don't have either carrier, it makes sense to get this one if you're particularly worried about your back or will be carrying a heavier child. If you're simply planning to carry your child around town for a few hours, the cheaper original model is sufficient.I am still waiting for a baby product company to offer a front-carry model for smaller children that incorporates backpack-style padded and contoured shoulder pads and a padded hip/lumbar belt capable of transferring weight from shoulders to hips.

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Synergy Review

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Synergy

My husband and I started out with the regular Bjorn, which hurt our backs after about 30 minutes. Then we tried the Bjorn Active, which made a huge improvement in terms of comfort, but we were unable to wear it in warm California weather because it was so big and bulky. Finally Bjorn figured it out - combine the Air and the Active -and you have the Synergy. I just wish it wasn't so ridiculously expensive ($150 for a mesh carrier mass produced in Latvia, c'mon!), I wish it came in other colors (navy, red, olive, like the Actives), and I wish Bjorn would finally develop waist support so the baby's weight wasn't carried so much on the parent's shoulders and back. But until then, this is a great carrier for newborns to 6 months old, especially if your young baby (like mine) resists slings and froggy-style carries in mei tais.

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Original Spirit Review

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Original Spirit
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Over the course of three children we have had FIVE carriers: Two slings, a Baby Bjorn, a Snugli and the Ergo Baby.

The Bjorn is definitely the best looking and easiest to use. The clips and connectors are very intuitive and it's easy to get smaller infants into it.

My big complaint is that when the kids get larger (or if you wear it for more than 20 minutes at a time) it really starts to kill your back. This is because the design keeps all the weight on your shoulders. It's like wearing a backpack BACKWARDS!

The "Active" version has wider straps which provide additional support for a small improvement over the "Original," but it still puts all the weight on your shoulders, pulling them forward.

If you only plan to use this when grocery shopping and think you'll give it up when they're 6 months old, this might be for you. If you think you might want to go to the park and hang out, or use it even when the kid starts to crawl, then the Ergo Baby is probably more your speed.

p.s. this is coming from a guy who is 6', 180# and fit. My wife is smaller and far more critical of the ergonomics of this carrier.

If you've found this review helpful, please let me know!

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Original Review

BABYBJ?RN Baby Carrier Original
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This carrier is the best! My son is child #5 and I have had a carrier for each one. This last one is definately the best! Not wanting to spend this much money on a "carrier" of all things, I researched and considered carefully before purchasing this. All reviews and reports were accurate...This is definately worth the extra dollars.

The ease of use is remarkable. I can get baby in and out all by myself. From the day after Luca and I arrived home from the hospital, we were out for our daily walks. I sing in our church choir every Sunday and Luca is in his Bjorn close to me and we have never missed a Mass! It is always in the diaper bag when we shop because he ultimately ends up in his carrier. Even at age 13 months I use this daily! Now he sits forward in it and charms all he sees! My older boys take Karate 5 days a week, so Luca is in the carrier facing forward and watching his brothers. My other mom friends are struggling with their toddlers and mine is content in his BJORN!A few of them even went out and purchased it after seeing how easy it is to use.Now we have our own section where we stand and let our babies talk and interact with eachother. My little guy is so content in his that I can even sit down using mine!

The BABY BJORN has become a regular part of my wardrobe! Before I get in the car, I put on my BJORN.I have two strollers in the back of the van but I never use them! This carrier is where he is most content!

Shopping, trips to the vet, doctors, karate, weekly Mass, recently a trip to the funeral home for a close relative, football games and sporting events, pumpkin patch and corn mazes, parades, summer carnivals festivals and picnics, I even ran stand for our church's picnic last summer with my baby in his BJORN...and oh... the list just goes on and on.

I cannot praise this enough for the convenience it has added to my family's life. There is NO staying home using the new baby as an excuse when your baby is #5!This carrier makes it so much easier!Easy in, easy out! When Luca falls asleep in his car seat he goes in this facing me.When he wakes up, he faces out.I can unfasten this and turn him aropund and re-fasten him without putting him down or passiong him off to someone else...that is the amazing feature of this wonderful product!

Seems intimidating at fira=st but believe me, you catch on fast!I cannot tell you how many of these I have sold in stores I just happened to be in shopping!Exasperated parents would just approach me asking me where I got my carrier.Several times I actually watched parents take this from the box on the shelves, put baby in, and pay for it on the way out!

No backaches for me.I am about 5'7" and weigh about 115lbs.Luca is about 23 lbs.I have no complaints and on karate nights I am wearing him for about 90 minutes!

Unfortunately I have never figured out how to nurse baby when in this. I do recall reading that you could but I have found it impossible, at least for me.

You put your arms through the straps and the front of the carrier is open, you then take the front piece and snap it on (very easy) You can then place your baby on you and hold him/her with one arm and pick up the front of the carrier and bring it up over baby sliding the built in post-like fasteners into their respective color coded openings on the straps. Baby is safe secure and mom/dad has 2 free hands!

You really will not be sorry you splurged on this!

Great great product!
